Tasty Tongues @Bavdhan, Pune

Evening tea time is the most killing time of the day. It is that point in your metabolic routine where you are just slightly hungry and hopelessly craving for something yummy. Ordinary biscuits or other breakfast options like upma, poha, etc fail to help you score at these hunger games. It is during such desperate times that Tasty Tongues @ Bavdhan can come to your rescue. And let me assure you that once you had some chaat here, evening or night, any time will be good time to keep coming back for more.

The only problem with this place is the noise. It is buzzing with chaos and to add to that the owners keep their radio blaring. So perhaps before going there you would want to carry some cotton wad to stuff in your ears in case the decibels go beyond your acceptance level. Otherwise, with a comely set up and a few rocking chairs here and there this place is very simple. It has minimal ambiance and no glamour. But you don’t really need that when you are offered a wide variety of mouth watering chaat and parathas at reasonable rates.

We visited this place late on one such noisy evening . Assuming that the surrounding noise was not enough our two year old started lending some notes of his own allowing for some promising distractions through out our chit-chaat(s) session. Albeit all this we kick started our rendezvous with dahi puri and papri chole.

Dahi puri was good but little towards masaledaar side. So perhaps for a pukka Puneite who is used to having the common S.P.D.P at the Manishas and the Ganeshs and other innumerable outlets, this will be slightly hot for the palate. But for me it was good.

Then came papri chole. This dish has a mix of chole, very well cooked and tasty, along with puri, papdi, green chutney, sweet chutney and other things which make it very very filling. It is one of the must haves here.

Following papri chole was paneer paratha and basket chaat. The paratha was strictly average. Perhaps we should have tried some other paratha instead. However the basket chaat was tasty. This too is filling. Having a combination of dahi wada type wada topped with curds, different chutneys, and other ingredients, it is both spicy and sweet. Another must have here.

Going by the hustle bustle at this place it is clear that it is one of the most preferred chaat outlets in the town. Even the sweetmeats that they offer here are quite famous. So next time you want to some grub around evening time (or anytime) or you just want to hog on chaat then Tasty Tongues is the place to be!

WOW! Nicely reviewed. :)

We almost always see this place crowded in the evening. Guess, that speaks about its popularity.
Besides chat, hey also serve pretty good Parathas and their Daal Tadka is our favorite!

Thanks for this review Apurwa!
